Java continues to be the dominant language – TIOBE

TIOBE programming community index is a measure of popularity of programming languages. TIOBE index for February 2013 says Java is the number one programming language in the world.

The index is based on the calculation from number of search engine results which includes Google, Blogger, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Baidu, YouTube, Bing and Amazon for queries containing the name of the language, for this TIOBE has their own algorithms.
